Taxidermy (from the archive)

Who says publishing is dead?  David’s magazine for amateur taxidermists is a roaring success.  ‘Get Stuffed’ is packed full of fascinating taxidermy stories and practical tips from celebrities of the embalming world.

Each issue comes with a different animal corpse selotaped to the cover, and there’s an accompanying step-by-step ‘Stuff This…’ guide in the magazine.  The launch issue carried an otter.  David was out slaughtering for months in preparation.  He is single-handedly responsible for reducing the UK otter population by half.  That’s dedication.  The current issue has a large fish and next month it will be a Shetland pony.

The Get Stuffed Annual Awards, now in their second year, have already become the highpoint of the taxidermy calendar.  Last year the prize for artistic interpretation was won by Derek Sidebottom from Lancashire, for his iconic masterpiece ‘Marines Raising The American Flag On Iwo Jima Beach’, recreated using stuffed badgers.
